Transforming a Kitchen and Living Room: Our Fairfield County Project

We completed this handsome kitchen remodeling project in Fairfield County, CT, a few seasons ago and we still love the style. This project involved a comprehensive kitchen and living room renovation, showcasing our unwavering dedication to quality craftsmanship and innovative design solutions.

Elevating the Living Room

We began by addressing the sunken living room floor. Once a beloved design feature favored by home designers and architects, sunken living rooms have fallen out of style. To create a seamless, modern look, we framed up the floor to achieve a continuous height throughout the space, ensuring a smooth flow from room to room. We then installed new red oak flooring, carefully matching, sanding, and refinishing it to blend perfectly with the existing wood.

Revamping the Kitchen

The heart of this project was the kitchen renovation. Working closely with our clients, we helped design a new kitchen layout that utilized as many existing cabinets as possible, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability and cost-efficiency. We ordered additional cabinets to facilitate the reconfigured layout, ensuring a harmonious integration with the existing ones.

We installed new drawer fronts and doors in a modern shaker style to update the look, complete with sleek new hardware. The cabinet frames were meticulously painted to match the new drawers and doors, creating a cohesive and contemporary aesthetic.

Enhancing the Kitchen’s Functionality

Beyond the cabinets, we installed a beadboard backsplash and open shelving, adding charm and practicality to the kitchen. The beadboard backsplash offers a classic look that complements the shaker cabinets, while the open shelving provides easy access to frequently used items and an opportunity to display decorative pieces.

New appliances were a key component of the kitchen upgrade, including a down draft for the cooktop installed in the island. This feature not only enhances the kitchen’s functionality but also
maintains the clean lines and open feel of the space.

Creating a Cozy Living Area

In addition to the kitchen and flooring updates, we modified the living room to enhance its comfort and usability. A custom storage window bench was installed, offering both seating and additional storage. This thoughtful addition seamlessly blends with the overall design, providing a cozy nook for relaxation or extra seating when entertaining guests.
